How to make Meghan Markle's favourite breakfast

It’s no secret that bride-to-be Meghan Markle loves keeping healthy and fit.

We know she’s partial to a gruelling workout and has even reportedly helped Prince Harry quit smoking for good, but less has been revealed about her diet.

However we now know that the actress and humanitarian's favourite breakfast is a trendy açaí bowl.

In an interview with Eye Swoon with photos by Winnie Au, Markle said her breakfast routine is: “Açaí bowl, clean cleanse shake, or a green juice.”

And she added that if she’s staying at a hotel and can’t make herself an açaí bowl, she “will likely order poached eggs and toast with avocado.”

Açaí berries are dark purple fruits grown in the Amazon and have been lauded as superfoods. Whilst these claims may have been overestimated, açaí bowls have become increasingly popular over recent years as a healthy, refreshing breakfast or snack.

The bowls can be made either by blending pre-prepared frozen sachets of açaí berries, or by adding an açaí powder to your own frozen fruits.

Here’s how to make Markle’s açaí bowl:

  1. Blend one frozen açaí packet with 1/3 cup of almond milk, 1/2 banana, a handful of frozen berries.
  2. This should be thick so add almond milk sparingly as you go.
  3. Top with coconut flakes, fresh berries, sliced banana, a drizzle of manuka honey, sprinkle of bee pollen (if you want), and  serve immediately.

The Suits actress recommends keeping your bowl in the freezer so once you pour your açaí mixture in, it stays thick and frozen for longer.

However Markle also revealed that her “ultimate food day” would be somewhat more indulgent.

It would consist of: “Breakfast of blueberry johnnycakes [cornmeal flatbreads] with extra crispy bacon and maple syrup, lunch of fish tacos and albarino cooked in my backyard on my ceramic grill (the big green egg), dinner would be a beautiful rib eye and sautéed broccoli rabe (or a bowl of cavatelli pasta) and glass of Tig [a wine called Tignanello], of course.”

And with whom would Markle share this delicious day? “The ‘whom’ knows who they are,” she says.

Let’s hope Prince Harry is an açaí fan too.
