Gary Neville hailed Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams’ fighting spirit, claiming the 19-year-old would “eat his opponent’s nose to win” a match.

The academy graduate broke into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team squad this season and has impressed when starting ahead of first-choice left-back Luke Shaw.

Williams was one of United’s standout performers in their 1-0 FA Cup victory against Wolves on Wednesday, and Neville took to Twitter to laud the England U20 international.

“I like Brandon Williams,” Neville wrote on Twitter. “What I like about him specifically is he has that look in his eye of someone that would eat his opponent’s nose to win the match.

“Keep going kid! Oh he can play football too which is always a bonus.”

Gary Lineker also highlighted Williams’ efforts in the third-round replay, writing: “The more I watch Brandon Williams, the more I like what I see. Another exciting young English talent.”

Williams signed a new contract in October, extending his deal until 2022 with an option for a further year.
