Disney is planning to sell coronavirus face masks decorated in illustrations of characters from its most beloved franchises.

Priced at $19.99 (£15) for a pack of four, the cloth masks are sold and arranged by franchise. One, related to Star Wars, depicts characters including Baby Yoda, R2-D2 and Princess Leia.

Others include an Avengers pack, which features the Hulk and the Marvel logo, and a Winnie the Pooh pack, which features the mouths of characters from AA Milne’s classic books. Mickey and Minnie Mouse are also accounted for.

“We realise this is a challenging time for families and wearing any type of mask can be daunting,” Edward Park, senior vice president of Disney Store and shopDisney, said in a statement.

“Our hope is that Disney’s cloth face masks featuring some of our most beloved characters will provide comfort to the families, fans and communities that are so important to us.”

Disney also announced that it will be donating a million of the masks to children and families living in vulnerable communities.

The corporation also plans to donate up to $1m (£796,000) in profits from sales of the masks to Medshare, a non-profit organisation that delivers medical supplies and equipment across the world.

The news has been met with mixed feedback on Twitter, with one person writing: “Disney manufacturing masks is some next level dystopian s***”

Another was more impressed with the idea, writing: “These are adorable!”
